Homer’s Life Today
After trying a variety of disciplines, Homer is enjoying learning classical dressage methods from USDF Gold Medalist, Julie McKean, of JEM Dressage. Homer loves Julie’s Appledore Farm, a quiet oasis in Loxahatchee, Florida.
Julie McKean is a petite dressage rider with experience training and competing through Grand Prix. She specializes in compassionate, harmonious training of quality ponies and horses from training level through FEI and methodically develops horses so they develop confidence and correct musculature as they progress in their education.
Below is Julie riding him in his fun Take Me Out to the Ballgame freestyle, created by Ruth Hogan Poulsen.
“Larks Home Run is one of the most honest and open-minded horses I know. Homer has done it all and done it well. His proper conformation of shoulder and topline gives him the ability to easily adjust his length of stride from collected to lengthened.
However, his wonderful physical traits are not what I love most about Homer. His temperament and willingness to learn and to build a partnership with his rider are my favorite qualities. Homer has learned and relearned different styles of riding throughout his career.
A willing, confident and trainable mind is the most important quality I look for in a horse for any level or discipline. With Homer’s physical qualities and his impeccable temperament, I can count on him to do whatever I ask!”
